“Close to..” Polaroid Exhibition by Ming Chan

MiNT is delighted to present the first solo exhibition of local photographer Ming Chan, ‘’Close to…’’.

This exhibition will highlight Chan’s unwavering pursuit of Polaroid Photography  –

his continuous journey throughout the years with his camera.

The fast pace of the city have made us neglected the beauty of things we have accustomed to.

The ever-evolving, technology-driven world has inspired Chan to eye like a shutter,

to capture that impulse of moment in daily life and nature scenery.

Chan’s world comprises the images of every little rhythm that echo every day :

in times they will join into accord, still singing the same note, for many years to come.

His meticulous approach towards nature, however common and ubiquitous they seem,

allows his Polaroid to burgeon into these fine reflection of one’s heart and memory, reminding us to appreciate, to look closer.

This exhibition showcases almost a hundred Polaroid, including a collage.

Each embossed with Chan’s simple desire to share his perception of the beauty in everyday’s life.

Please join us to celebrate the Opening of the ‘’Close to…’’  on Saturday, 26-April at 7:30 pm.

The ceremony will be held on MiNT’s Causeway Bay store.

CHRISTMAS ISLAND

Polaroid Exhibition by Derrick Tin

Let him lead deep into this mysterious Christmas Island, and towards its peculiar natural ecosystem.
Every shot taken by his SX-70 camera has its own inimitable topic, and new angle on traditional surroundings around us.

He would like to share one of his favourite travel quotes of all time by Benjamin Disraeli:
“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.”

Live like a traveler to feel and explore the world in your own way.

Now,
Let him to take us to a trip to Christmas Island.

Start my trip with Polaroid SX-70:

The SX 70 remains one of my favourite vintage cameras.

I fondly remember one sitting on the shelf in the home i grew up in,

always wondering what was captured through its lens in the past.

I love its design, its history and above all,

all the stories that people tell about their first memories of this brilliant camera.

The displayed photo can be divided into 3 main series,

there're migration of crabs, other wildlife and Landscape of Christmas Island.

Please visit Mint to know what he sees and hears there.

Beneath the Surface

{ an exhibition by miun }

 6 July - Sep, 2013 (Saturday)

Beneath the Surface is an interactive conceptual artwork
incorporating Impossible Film as the main medium.

Since the birth of Impossible Film, Miun has embarked on a long 3-year journey in

exploring what’s beyond the mylar sheet, constantly experimenting with the

amazing layers beneath the surface by slicing open, peeling and manipulating

the strength and weakness of the Impossible Film.

In a 2-part series, Miun’s creativity shines through with interactive pieces that

illustrate so much more depth and magic in a Polaroid frame than an instant photograph.

A powerful series that will surprise, amuse, interest and inspire viewers.

Series 1 - Polapulse

A remarkably bright idea powered by the polapulse batteries from Impossible film cartridges,

these interactive art pieces illuminate far more than one’s imagination

and highlight the magic beneath the surface. Once a beautiful instant picture frozen in time,

it is now brought to life, commanding attention to look beyond the visible.

(all pictures too by Impossible PX680 Color Protection with SLR670 camera)

Series 2 - Negative

Each negative black backing has been carefully treated with photographic fixer.

Under the superficial layer, one can find beauty behind every image.

The closer you look, the less you’ll actually see.
